The device is used to test the flammability of non-metallic mate­ rials used in aviation cabins and cargo holds.

A specimen clamped in a U-shaped holding frame is ex­ posed vertically to a defined flame for a defined time and thus ignited.

The test determines the length of the burned area and whether and how long the specimen burns. It is also record­ ed whether burning material detaches from the specimen and falls off, and how long the burning time of the fallen-off parts is.
